GIS is a computerized data management system designed to capture, store, retrieve, analyze and report geographic information. The Fort Payne Geographic Information System provides GIS data to city departments and to the general public in the form of maps, digital images, reports and tabulations. Examples of databases maintained by the GIS department include, city limits, floodway/floodplain, sewer system, zoning, parks/recreation facilities, parcels, streets, buildings, contours, hydrology, and fire hydrants.
