Fort Payne takes great pride in its beautiful parks and superb recreation facilities. On sunny afternoons and cool evenings our parks are teeming with families playing and people enjoying the walking trails. Squeals of delight can be heard around town as children enjoy the numerous playgrounds. From City Park, our oldest, to the Alabama Walking Park, our newest, there is something that will delight everyone
Our well maintained Sports Complex is home to junior baseball, softball, and soccer, as well as adult leagues in both soccer and softball. The Will’s Valley Recreation Center is state-of-the-art, and is home to various basketball and racquetball leagues, group fitness and martial arts classes, and fitness equipment.
Our Parks and Recreation Department received the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association Agency of the Year in 2014.

The Fort Payne City Swimming Pool is also Home to the Fort Payne Parks and Recreation Department Swim Team appropriately named the Fort Payne Aquacats. The Aquacats practice at the Pool Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Due to the unusal circumstances with COVID 19 pandemic, City Pool will NOT open in 2020. We look forward to opening next year.
The Fort Payne City Pool is an Olympic sized pool that features an “L-Shape” with approximately 195,000 gallons of water. The Pool has a 3 Meter High Dive and a 1 Meter Board. The Pool House is complete with restrooms and showers.
The Pool is open daily through the summer:
Monday-Friday: 12 Noon – 5 pm
Saturday: 11 am – 5 pm
Sunday: 1 pm – 5 pm

Pool parties may be scheduled through the Parks and Recreation Department by calling the main office at (256)844-6571. Pool Parties are scheduled Monday – Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m. Pool rent is $ 150 for the two hours.

- All children ages 12 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times
- All persons using the splash pad do so at their own risk
- No running or rough play allowed
- Swim diapers must be worn at all times by infants and untrained persons.
- No food, drink, or glass containers on the splash pad area
- Skateboards, rollerblades, and bikes are not permitted
- Do not use splash pad during severe weather conditions such as electrical storms or tornadoes
- No electrical appliances within 10 feet of the splash pad
- Do not cover water fixtures or drains
- Those with health problems such as:; diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, infections or open wounds are not allowed on splash pad.
- Do not climb or hang on equipment or fencing.
- Any person violating these instructions or rules may be evicted from the park.
- Splash pad may be closed at any time due to maintenance or other concerns.
- Maximum capacity 75.
The Sports Complex is a 27 Acre facility which features 3 Championship Softball Fields , 3 Dixie Youth Baseball Fields and 3 Championship Soccer Fields.
The Sports Complex has played host to many local, district, state, and national tournaments. The Sports Complex Staff is proud of the facilities and dedicated to providing a quality tournament experience for the teams, players, coaches, fans and other sports enthusiast. Wills Valley Recreation Center
Fort Payne is very fortunate to have one of the state’s finest indoor recreation facilities. In 2001, it was named “Best new Recreation Center in Alabama,” and it’s quality has continued thanks to the hard work of the Parks & Recreation Department employees, and of course the members and users of the facility.
In addition to being used by individuals, “The Rec” is used for Rec League sports, various adult leagues, city assemblies (the basketball area can accommodate 2,000 people) and for indoor P.E. for the students at the adjacent school Wills Valley Elementary.
Due to COVID 19 and ADPH orders – as of May 13th – WVRC will be open with restrictions. The following areas will remain CLOSED in accordance with ADPH – tot watch/romper room, basketball & racquetball courts, ta kwon do classes, locker rooms (including showers, sauna/steam room) , water fountains and self serve water stations.
