Fort Payne is perfectly situated to offer a vast array of things to do and see that will appeal to all.

Fort Payne is located between 2 stunningly scenic mountains, Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain, which provide unlimited opportunities for relishing the beauty of the outdoors.  Within minutes of the city are 4 parks that provide one with the chance to hike, bike, kayak, camp, fish, or simply be and savor the sounds of the waterfalls and the smells of the wildflowers.  For those who are interested in further educating themselves while at the same time enjoying the natural wonders of Northeast Alabama, Jacksonville State University has recently opened its newest Field School at Little River Canyon where their instructors “apply immersion-based learning, Natural History interpretation and outdoor adventure to create unique programs that are not only educational but extremely fun.”

If shopping is your interest, Fort Payne’s downtown area features many antique shops in which to browse and find treasures.  Also Fort Payne is a stop along the World’s Longest Yard Sale (in August) and Antique Alley (in May) that draw thousands of shoppers to the area.

Throughout the year, Fort Payne is a place of fun and entertainment.  There are festivals throughout the year that celebrate the history of the town, the music of the mountains, and the seasons of the year.  Young and old come out to fellowship and enjoy the spirit of the town as friends and neighbors become a community.

And finally, if you are interested in the big city life, we are just a hop, skip, and a jump from several major metropolitan areas with their fine dining and evenings out.  In less than 2 hours you can enjoy The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga or tour NASA’s Space Museum in Huntsville or shop at The Summit, one of Birmingham’s upscale shopping centers.  All close enough to visit for the day and then return to the peaceful and relaxing life in our small town.

Fort Payne… there’s no place like it.
